fleurdelisHow to Join Team 8880

All boys are welcome to join the adventure of Scouting. Scouting builds character and prepares young men for a life of leadership and community service.

Eligibility for membership as a Varsity Scout

Youth membership in good standing shall be defined as open only to male young adults ages 14-17. No prospective members shall be disqualified because of race, creed, or color. All members must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America as Varsity Scouts. To be eligible, a Scout must have played a sport on a junior varsity or varsity level team in a school sponsored program. Scouts who do not meet this criterion are still eligible to attain membership upon the passing of a physical fitness test. Members involved in other BSA units must be in good standing to join the Varsity Team. Adult membership is open to all adults at least the age of 18 who are registered with the Boy Scouts of America as Varsity Scouters. Adult leadership positions are assigned at the discretion of the Team Committee. All Members must agree to live in accordance to the Varsity Scout Pledge and the Boy Scout Oath and Law.

Visiting Team 8880

To visit or join Team 8880, please contact us using the "Contact Us" menu item above.

Team 8880 meets the second Thursday of every month at 7 pm at Cherokee Presbyterian Church in Canton, Georgia.

A parent or guardian should accompany his/her son to a team meeting at the time the decision is made to join Team 8880. A membership packet will be given to the parent for review and for completion of the necessary forms. The parent, with son, will meet with the Team Coach to discuss Team 8880's Scouting program, guidelines, and procedures. The boy will not be permitted to participate in any Scouting function until he is properly registered and all his fees are paid. This is primarily because the Boy Scouts of America needs to have a membership record in order to provide insurance coverage.

Parents or guardians are encouraged to contribute to the team and its activities in some way. Positions are available as Assistant Team Coaches or Committee Members. Many resources and talents are required for a team to have a quality program, and each Scout's unique gifts add to the diversity and abilities of the Team.

A little about our Team

Typically, the Team has at least one meeting per month. Our program is as "event-based" as possible. Our team is "boy run," which means that the boys decide what they want to do. The adults only help oversee and facilitate activities.
